.A self-guided walking holiday gives you the freedom to go at your own pace, combined with the security of reliable routes and professional back up. You can chose the accomodation that suits you and the number of days you walk. As the holidays are based in Exochori you have superb walking routes from your door, as well as being within easy reach of fabulous beaches.
Walking Exochori is a collaboration between accomodation providers in the village and a resident walking guide.
Walks
Self-guided packages are availble for 3 or 6 days.
The routes range between 2-5 hours and can be tailored to your needs and abilities. Caroline Herbert is a qualified British walking guide with many years of experience in this part of Greece. She has designed the routes to allow you to see the best of the scenery, flowers and villages as you walk. The terrain is rocky but mostly with clear paths, passing through olive groves as well as through wild unciltivated areas. The dramatic Viros Gorge runs from Exochori down to the coast. The old mule paths, "kalderimi" run between villages and form a network across the area. Lunch time stops in tavernas, or picnics in unspoilt spots mean that these routes will give you a real taste of the Mani.
Caroline will meet you on your first evening and discuss the walks, weather and back up arrangements. You will get maps, detailed route descriptions, a Greek mobile phone and help to make any necessary transport arrangements.
Accomodation
You can choose to stay in practical self-catering studios at Apartments Taygetos
in the Hotel Faraggi or in the One Foot on the Mountain Guesthouse.
All offer well furnished and comfortable accomodation, with outside sitting areas, and great views. The Hotel has free wi-fi. The Apartments Taygetos has cooking facilities in the studio rooms. One Foot on the Mountain offers bed and breakfast.
Evening meals are available both at the Hotel (open to non-residents) which has a magnificent roof terrace overlooking the Viros Gorge, and at the Country Restaurant "Me Thea" which is particularly stunning at sunset. Both serve a good range of local food.
